Vernon Building Society has opened voting for its Community Stars fund. Supporters and members of the public can choose from 37 local not-for-profit organisations and charities. Merseyway transformed with ‘Flow Like a River’ art installation

Merseyway in Stockport has been transformed this summer with a vibrant art installation in its undercover mall. Symbolising the town’s iconic River Mersey, the display features hundreds of suspended blue and green umbrellas and fish, all creating the illusion of a river in waves and bends throughout the shopping mall. Specsavers launch glasses and contact lens recycling initiative

Specsavers in Stockport is offering customers the chance to recycle their glasses and contact lenses in-store for free. The new initiative comes after the high-street opticians teamed up with recycling experts MYgroup to install recycling collection boxes at Specsavers stores up and down the country. Customers at Specsavers in Stockport will be able to drop off both metal and plastic glasses and sunglasses, as well as contacts lenses and accessories, including blister packs, contact lens cases and solution bottles. Stockport Council is saddened to announce that Councillor Sheila Bailey passed away yesterday (03 August 2022). Staff from both Stepping Hill Hospital and local community NHS services showed their support for Stockport Pride by attending their big celebration event in the town centre. Stockport’s popular town centre Covid-19 vaccination clinic offer at the One Stockport Hub, has been extended and will remain open throughout August. The One Stockport Hub, Mersey Square, SK1 1RA, will be open every Saturday, 9.30am to 3.30pm. It’s for anyone aged five years old and over. Children aged 5-11 are invited to come along between 9am and 1pm only, when specially trained staff will be on hand in a dedicated children’s area of the Hub.
