Merseyway in Stockport has been transformed this summer with a vibrant art installation in its undercover mall.
Symbolising the town’s iconic River Mersey, the display features hundreds of suspended blue and green umbrellas and fish, all creating the illusion of a river in waves and bends throughout the shopping mall.
Created by award-winning designers, City Dressing, the ‘Flow Like a River’ installation will encourage visitors to look up as they shop and provides the ultimate Instagram opportunity within the town.
Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said:
“We wanted to bring something different to Merseyway this summer that not only animates the shopping centre, but celebrates the town too! The umbrella installation has already become a real talking point and it’s great to see so many people snapping photos as they visit.”
To celebrate the opening of the umbrella installation, Merseyway will also be hosting a postcard competition. Featuring an image of the umbrellas, shoppers can take a postcard from the centre and send it to a family friend or relative, asking them to snap a photo with the card and share to the Merseyway social channels using the hashtag #flowlikeariver. The participant who manages to get their postcard to travel the furthest will win a £250 shopping spree.
The Flow Like a River installation has been funded by the Welcome Back Fund and will be available to visit until October 2022.
