Krazy Races Soapbox Derby is set to return to Stockport next year after taking the town centre by storm earlier this year.
Following the event’s inaugural visit to the town centre last May, Krazy Races estimated up to 15,000 people cheered on wacky soapboxes, designed, built and raced by 30 local teams. Due to its success in 2023, Krazy Races, managed by Sarah Belcher Events, has been invited back by Headline Supporter Totally Stockport, Stockport’s Business Improvement District (BID) Company.
Totally Stockport Krazy Races will take over the streets of Stockport on Sunday 28th July 2024. The event will take the same route as this year with races going through St Peter’s Square, down into Mersey square past the iconic Plaza building, where racers will have to navigate a sharp right toward Stockport’s famous Air Raid Shelters. The event route will be made up of chicanes, obstacles and more!
As well as fantastic races, Krazy Races are reaching out to local sponsors and businesses to bring together local entertainers, food stalls, cars and more to give families a fantastic day to remember while showcasing the best of Stockport.
Krazy Races has become the UK’s largest free to attend soapbox derby event attracting a total of 150,000 people. Since 2018, the popular soapbox derby has raised over £100,000 for local charities
including nearly £20,000 for local Stockport and Greater Manchester charities.
The Totally Stockport team are delighted to welcome the soapbox derby back in 2024:
“May’s soapbox derby was the first event of its kind held in Stockport town centre. Well known for its climbs and descents, the town centre route provided the perfect location for a thrilling race where 30 local businesses created their own unique soapboxes, minus brakes, braved steep hills and chicanes to race for the chequered flag! The Krazy Races event proved a big hit with the spectators and the teams taking part, attracting big crowds and we’re looking forward to supporting next year’s event.”

“We started our 2023 soapbox season with our Stockport event and we were blown away with the amount of people who came out to support the event. We have been inundated with locals asking for us to return and we are so excited to see what the Krazy Stockport teams and businesses come up with next year!
“A massive part of our event is raising money for local charities and our Stockport event raised nearly £20,000 for local causes which is incredible!
“We would like to say a massive thank you to Totally Stockport BID Company for inviting us back and to Stockport Council for supporting us.”
Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“We were delighted how well this year’s race went and everyone is really excited about the event returning next year and further cementing our Town of Culture status.
“The event brought so many people into our town centre, and it was fantastic to see so many people having a great time.”
Applications for teams to enter are now open with event organisers looking for between 20-40 teams to enter the race in a knockout style competition with multiple trophies. Teams and spectators are encouraged to raise as much money as possible for charity.
The team are looking to appoint a headline local charity to benefit from the 2024 and are inviting interested charities who would like to be considered to reach out to organisers.
