Stockport has over 57,000 volunteers (taken from the 2021 State of the VCFSE Sector report) who give over 213,000 hours a week, valued at an incredible £105 million a year. These people give their time, for free, to help others live healthy and happy lives. Their work often goes unnoticed but plays a crucial role in helping people to continue with everyday life, whatever the challenges they may be facing. Sew Stockport Chronicles is community-led, legacy artwork created for the people of Stockport, by the people of Stockport, to reflect on the past and celebrate the future of our inspiring town. The project was facilitated by Self Care Creatives CIC and funded by Stockport Town of Culture. Stockport Council and partner organisations are to offer weekly support sessions for the borough’s business community at Merseyway Innovation Centre. Starting on Friday 9th February, from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Merseyway Innovation Centre in the Merseyway Shopping Centre, The Work Shop, will offer guidance to Stockport businesses on a range of topics, such as skills, recruitment, innovation, access to finance, start-up support, and business growth. Nominations have opened for creative businesses, makers and artisans, and independent businesses in the borough to enter the 2024 Made In Stockport Awards. The awards were created by Aqua Design Group in 2021 to support the town’s creative sector to recover after the Covid-19 pandemic.
